SP chief Akhilesh Yadav welcomes Priyanka Gandhi to UP politics

India News

After three days of silence, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has finally hailed Priyanka Gandhi’s entry electoral debut in Uttar Pradesh. He praised Congress for appointing Priyanka as the AICC general secretary of East UP and called it a right decision.

After hoisting the Tricolour at the Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow, accompanied by his party workers, Akhilesh told mediapersons, “Samajwadi Party always welcomes new people in politics. I congratulate the Congress party and its president for appointing Priyanka Gandhi as the AICC general secretary of East UP.”

According to reports, many expected such a reaction from Akhilesh because Rahul Gandhi had hinted at a ‘soft and workable relation’ with SP and BSP. While in Amethi, on Thursday, Rahul had said, “BJP is our common enemy, and we are fighting for the same goal. I respect and love both Mayawati and Akhilesh.” Akhilesh, in his first public appearance, had approached Rahul Gandhi in the similar way, but Mayawati did not react on the Congress’s decision yet. According to reports, political pandits are saying that Priyanka’s electoral debut in UP is “likely to hurt the BJP most”, but East Uttar Pradesh is considered a stronghold of the SP where Priyanka will put all her efforts and Congress might end up hurting the newly formed alliance too.
