God’s own country, Kerala is one state in India where the ruling party at Centre, the BJP, has little or no presence.

The political equations began to change after Sept 2018 rapidly. The Sabarimala Temple, Supreme Court verdict, agitations gave the BJP ample opportunity to open an account in Kerala.

The BJP got a big boost yesterday in Kerala.

Uncle and aunt of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s joined BJP in an event. It became an uneasy situation for Shashi when both his relatives said that they are already supporters of the BJP. A point to be noted here: one day earlier Tom Vadakkan, Congress spokesman, close aide of Sonia Gandhi left Congress and  joined the BJP.

Tharoor’s aunt Shobhana Shashikumar and his uncle Shashikumar said they have been supporters of the BJP for a long time and they wonder why such a program has been done to welcome them in the party.

Welcoming 14 new members of various backgrounds, BJP’s Kerala unit president PS Sashidharan Pillai called them the cream of Kochi and presented them with shawl in the glittering function in the presence of a number of media dignitaries.

While addressing the program, Pillai appreciated the historical background of the Tharoor family in Palakkad district and said that it is a highly welcome move for them to be a part of the BJP. When contacted by the reporters,  Tharoor’s relatives said that they have been supporters of the BJP for a long time and do not know why such a program was done for their reception. They asked the media to ask the BJP leaders instead why it was being done.
